This Week's Tasting at Carpe Vino
May 1st, 2008
|
Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us last week. I also want to thank all of you for not putting up too much of a fight with the nominal charge we have instituted for our tastings. I will definitely benefit you in the long run because we will be able to crack open even better bottles for the tastings. I am not feeling well so I will make this short and sweet. For this week's tasting we will be joined by Chad from Rush Wines. Here are the wines:
Rambling White 2005 California $9.99
Consulting winemaker Paul Moser put together this fresh, lively white blend. It is composed of 50% organically grown Sauvignon Blanc from Lake County, 27% Sauvignon Blanc from Monterey County, 20% Chardonnay from Clarksburg, and 3% Riesling from Monterey. Notes of flowers, ripe citrus, and perfume constitute the nose, while the flavor profile consists of fresh peach, apricot, melon, ripe citrus, and minerals. The finish is crisp.
Whitecliff Sacred Hill Sauvignon Blanc 2007 Marlborough, New Zealand $11.99
A lifted medley of aromatics with passionfruit, lychee and gooseberry characters. A rich and mouthfilling palate with abundant tropical fruit flavours of passionfruit, lychee and gooseberry following the aroma. Beautifully balanced with a textural mid-palate and lingering tropical aftertaste.
Fleur de California Chardonnay 2005 Central Coast, California $12.99
Fleur de California is our bright, fresh, charming, and flavorful Chardonnay from the Central Coast. The brilliant color sets the stage for aromas of apricots, lemon curd, honeysuckle and Comice pear. At once crisp and supple the wine exhibits a richness with underlying acidity that causes the fruit flavors to linger in the finish. is flower of a wine may be enjoyed alongside an appetizer of blue cheese, nuts and honey or savored with scallops in a citrus reduction sauce.
Alfredo Roca Pinot Noir 2006 San Rafael Mendoza, Argentina $10.99
Who would have thought that Argentina would be making as good a Pinot Noir in this price range as you can find today? Yes it’s a bit on the light side, but this has nicely rendered Pinot fruit that is as delicious with chicken or fish as it is just sipping by itself. Alfredo Roca is a very modern, medium-sized winery (for Argentina) with about 282 acres of vines. The five-acre Pinot Noir parcel is at an altitude of 3000 feet and is further cooled by a wind tunnel from the Andes. This is one of the coolest parcels in all of Mendoza. Cropped at barely two tons per acre, it produces only 650 cases of a wine that combines a Burgundian sense of terroir with a lively New World character.
Peirano Estate “Six-Clones” Merlot 2006 Lodi, California $11.99
Peirano Estate Vineyards’ Merlot is produced from 6 different clones, or sub-varieties, of Merlot grown on the estate. Our Six Clones Merlot leads with aromas of currant, cranberry and violet, with hints of toast, coffee and vanilla. The mouth is filled with an array of flavors, including cherry, sweet fruit, toast, anise and cinnamon, while supple tannins leave a pleasing finish on the palate.
Wall Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 Napa Valley, California $11.99
You'll just have to wait and taste this one for yourself!
Lost and Found: About four weeks ago a customer set their keys down on the counter and they disappeared. If anyone has accidentally picked these keys up would you please bring them by the shop? It would be much appreciated.
Well that is about it for now. So grab your friends and come out and join us on either Thursday or Friday evening. The tastings last from 6:00 P.M. Until 8:30 P.M. You are free to taste through all of the wines once for this week's reasonable fee of $5.00. If you find something you like you are more than welcome to purchase a glass and enjoy it while you are here.
Thanks
