the food was way over priced. i feel like if the quality of the steak was better i would have over looked the price tage. the meat was rubber and cold. as sides i got an salad with ranch (not homemade unless you count hidden valley as homemade) and a baked potatoe that cold and uncooked in the middle. the serve was ok at best. my waiter didnt seem to care about serving me as much as talking with the other workers. the manager came over to check on us and sat at our table. im sorry i did not remember inviting him to dinner. overall i feel like this was an way overpiced poor experiance.

Too expensive to be the grisliest Steak I've ever had! Like biting into a bundle of seasoned rubber bands. This was my birthday dinner and was a big let down. One would think they would choose the best best cuts of meat for their menu.

The worst meal I have had in years

Took my family to Desparado's Steak House in Northport this week and can honestly say it was the worst meal I have had in years. The tuna was overcooked and cold, the shrimp skewers were small and also served cold. The steaks were sub par and would have been much cheaper and much better at a much cheaper steakhouse chain. In addition to that we were informed after being seated that they did not have their liquior license??? The owners should be ashamed to charge those prices for such poor quality food. I will say the servers were very nice but that won't make up for the sorry food. I will never go back.

This was my first time here at Desperodo's, which I thought that the environment was wonderful, more than I expected. The quality, taste, and the presentation of the food was excellent!! The service was excellent. The wine selection was excellent!! Our overall experience there was wonderful and yes most definately I would dine there again and bring a host of people.

You're doing a good job!!

I dine at Desperados very frequently for lunch. I always ask for Brett it he has availability in his statation. He can practically read my mind! The food is always good, reasonally priced and the service is fantastic. It is a little pricey at night but the food quality and service make it worth it. They also do catering for our office, they do a wonderful job, deliver on time and have a great product. I can wholeheartly recommend their catering too.

Service could not be better.

This was our first visit to Desperados. The most outstanding feature of Desperados on our visit was a waiter named Curtis. He was by far the best waiter that we have ever had the priviledge of having serve us. The food was "pretty," salad fresh with excellent blue cheese dressing, baked potatoe hot and moist. However, the rib-eye was about 1/2 fat. This is my favorite cut of meat and I have never seen one with this much fat. Environment was clean and pleasing. Need to update prices on on-line menu as they are not accurate (less than actual cost).

the service was wonderful, But it was the worst food we have ever had. I had the south western chicken sandwich with a side of fried potatoes. The bread of my sandwich was texas toast. The bread was charbroiled with some kind of sauce and cheese on it. My poatoes were burnt to the point that my whole plate had a burnt odor. My husband had the surf and turf meal. The lobster was good. The steak had a taste to it that he can't describe. The baked potato was so cold it wouldn't melt the butter. My husband spoke with the manager on the way out. He offered us a gift card for a return visit. WE SAID NO THANK YOU. We wouldn't return even with a gift card. So we had a bill of 45.00. Our food went back to the kitchen hardly touched.

we also had sweet tea. the tea was good.

I was eager to try Desperados last Friday night, having never been before, but I have to say I was quite disappointed. Our table was greeted by a young lady who introduced herself as our server, but then after we ordered, the hostess brought our drinks and food and we didn't see the server again until the check was presented. We were slightly confused about this. I ordered a filet which was cooked to the correct temperature, but was completely flattened with a big strip of fat and gristle through the center. Not at all what I was expecting for what is advertised as a prime filet. The side of mushrooms appeared to be from a can, heated in Dale's. Again, I was not impressed. The music was much too loud, to the point of hindering conversation, even though we were one of only two tables in the whole restaurant during prime dinner hours. The bathrooms were clean, but that unfortunately is not enough for me to return any time soon.

I was looking forward to eating here and boy was it a letdown. I was expecting a good steakhouse, something Tuscaloosa has needed for a long time and they failed.

I have eaten at some of the top steakhouses in the country and this one couldn't even compete with ***edited***. Their steak quality was poor, too chewy with an over abundance of sinew. They cut the steaks way to thin and say your getting a bone-in ribeye and give you flat thin wrongly cut piece of meat with a bone chip in it. Then they have the audacity to argue with a customer such as myself having vast experience in selling high quality meat and telling me I'm wrong. BS, this place won't last long until they find someone who knows about "steak quality" not just "steaks". I would have rather eaten an ***edited*** sirloin compared to the no-roll garbage they served us. They also advertise a steer butt cut as something rare and special, well hate to tell you that's not the case. There is a reason no one serves that cut, it's because it is hard to cook and extremely chewy. Then they have the audacity to charge $25 for something they call "unique". Save your money and go somewhere else.

Greak steak, ok sides, great service, but not worth the price.

This was my first time to dine here. The atmosphere is very nice, but sports were on in the background which kind of takes away from it. The prices are very high. for two New York steaks and drinks was 64.00 with a tip. the steak was very good, and the service was EXCELLENT but the sides were mediocre at best. In my opinion, ***EDITED*** would be a better choice for the(less) money, sides, and steak.

Best Filet Mignon in town!!!!

We made reservations for Valentine's night and were seated within 10 minutes of our scheduled reservation. This is our 5th time to eat at Desperados and it was just as good this time as it was the first. My husband and I always order the filet mignon and it is by far the best steak I have ever eaten. I actually don't eat beef but I love this steak!!! The side items are awesome, expecially the seasoned oven fries and grilled pineapple. Also the brownie bites are to die for!!! The decor and atmosphere of the restaurant are upscale without being intimidating. There is very laid back feeling. We have always had great service even when they are packed. My only complaint, is that on Valentine's night there were so many people there to be seated that they spilled into the eating space and servers had a hard time getting to their tables. I think the manager or hostesses should have directed the people not to stand right beside the booths were people were trying to eat. It was a little strange to try to eat with people standing almost right against your table. I know it was cold outside but there is an outside area with seating for those waiting on a table. Our server was fabulous and apologized repeatedly about crownd hanging around our table. Even though she had to navigate the sea of people, she kept our classes filled and checked on us often. Although the prices are a little more than other restaurants in town, the food and service are definitely worth it. This is our special occasion place where we splurge a little.

My family and I have dined here multiple times. Last night 7/10/07 we went there and ***edited*** was our server. She brought me a white Zin for my wine, when I ordered Cabernet. Told me it was a Cabernet Merlot blend. I am 50 years old, and a wine lover for many years. I have never seen a Cab-Merlot blend that was white and sweet like Zin. I sent it back and asked again for a Cabernet.

Then, my food was served and it was COMPLETLEY wrong from what I ordered. I informed her of this several times, and she snapped at me, that IS what you ordered and left.

We left, paid our bill even in light of this, which infuriates me with myself. We should have asked for the manager.

We will not be dining there again. In the scheme of life it will not hurt this place, but someone needs to give that server an education on wine and service.

Awesome steak, great service, mediocre everything else

I visited for the first time last night, and if you are just looking for a great steak, this is your place. Their "classic ribeye" was probably the best steak I've ever had at a restaurant-it was cooked exactly as I ordered it, and absolutely delicious. The only bad thing I have to say about the steak is that the seasoning/marinade almost over powered it. I think that it was worcestire sauce, but whatever it was, there was a little too much of it. Other than that, the steak was awesome.

As for the rest of the meal, it was mediocre at best. And that's not even taking price into consideration-when price is factored in, the rest of the meal was definitely not worth what we paid. For starters, the sweet tea was hardly sweet, and the fried pickles were $7 for 6 pickles spears. Over $1 a pickle? Come on. And the ranch sauce that came with them was terrible-it undoubtedly came from a bottle. The caesar salads were very blah-limp lettuce, squishy, bland croutons, and dressing that also tasted like it came from a bottle. Last but not least, the baked potatoes were dry and under cooked.

The other good thing about our visit was the service. We had excellent service throughout our meal, but I wouldn't have expected less, since we were the only table in the entire restaurant for the first 15 minutes of our meal (we arrived at 7:30). By the time we left there were probably 3 or 4 more tables, still not the volume I would expect on a Sunday (especially Father's Day).

Although I loved the steak, I definitely will not be ordering it again. Our bill ended up being $59 (before tip) for two teas, an appetizer, and the two ribeyes, and I did not feel like it was worth it. I will probably give them another try though-next time for a burger and one of their drink specials. Anything else just isn't worth it.

Comment: Thank you for your time and opinions about Desperados Steakhouse. We are very happy that you enjoyed your steak with your extremely nice comments. However we do not understand that if it was the best steak you've ever had in a restaurant then why would you not want to return to have another steak. Once again thank you for your time and generosity and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.

My Husband and I attended the first weekend that it opened and it was great. The drinks were priced very well as well as the steaks. Everything was great!! I have to say that the best thing was their desert brownie. Absolutely wonderful. This place was so great that we returned the following weekend. It was very impressive to see the owner actually cooking behind the grill. The atmosphere was perfect and romantic. I loved their decorating style. It is just a great place to dine!!

This restaurant is one of tuscaloosa's hidden secrets. our first time to dine here was last night. the pricing is very reasonable (no more than *EDITED*). The service was more than excellent (blake). The atmosphere and environment were so romantic yet could be family oriented at the same time and the decor was beautiful. My husband and I both got steaks (ribeyes) cooked to perfection. i had a side of loaded mashed potatoes and a side salad. he had roasted new potatoes and asparagus. yum. their desserts are homemade. we did not get a dessert but they looked and sounded wonderful. best of all there was no wait.
