Tuscaloosa has several insitutions, but when it comes to breakfast, nothing compares to The Waysider. I've been going to The Waysider for about 20 years and have never been disappointed. Although it also serves a varying meat-and-three lunch each day, The Waysider has perfected the breakfast experience. I took my 8-year-old daughter recently and they made her kitty cat shaped pancakes. How cool is that? The biscuits are just like my grandmother used to make. I can just visualize someone in the kitchen, throwing ingredients together, not measuring, and creating the most perfect fluffy biscuit. If only I could learn the secret! One day about a year ago, I went to The Waysider around 6:00 a.m. on a very cold winter morning. Unfortunately, the restaurant had a problem with its heater. But did that stop anyone? NO! We dedicated patrons sat there in the cold restaurant, still wearing coats and scarves, and enjoying the entire experience. This is the kind of place where you have regulars. I know people who meet there twice a week for breakfast before work! Of course, any restaurant that leaves a carafe of coffee on the table is a great place for breakfast :-)
